Dr. Johnston grew up in Pittsburgh, PA. After receiving a B.S. in Animal Bioscience at Penn State, she then proceeded to Purdue University to graduate with a DVM degree in 1986. She has worked at a few hospitals/clinics in Virginia since her graduation, starting with a job that included large animals. In 1989, Dr. Johnston chose to concentrate on small animals and has worked all but two years at Dumfries Animal Hospital since 1990. Her areas of interest include internal medicine and surgical procedures, but most of all meeting people.
At home, Dr. Johnston is very busy and having fun being a wife and mother of four girls, “Penny” her Dachshund mix and “Nikki” the Degu.
